Some people learn how to sculpt. Others discover, early on, that they were born to do it.
Alex Oliver was just a boy when he saw E.T. for the first time. He was fascinated by how a fantasy art sculpture could spark enchantment in millions of people. He didn’t just want to watch. He wanted to step through the screen. To understand the mystery. To recreate the impossible with his own hands.
In Fortaleza, a city in the northeast of Brazil, most childhoods revolved around games and distractions. But his was different, marked by taking toys apart, studying forms, and instinctively molding clay.
That’s how a sculptor was born, with soul in his hands. Not through classes or mentors, but through the memory of an enchanted childhood, and the intuition that fantasy may be the truest form to engage with reality.
I didn’t play RPG as a kid, but I already lived in that universe. Movies like Legend, The Thing, E.T.—they gave me the foundation. Deep down, I was already there—I just needed to sculpt it. the highlights of the project is the freedom that artists have to work with FAS.

Alex Oliver’s journey was forged in the absence of resources, mentors, and easy paths. But there was a quiet obsession. An inner calling. A love for detail. A near-sacred commitment to treat every sculpture as worthy of existing.
That reverence took him to places he never dreamed of reaching. With over three decades of experience, Alex Oliver has become a global reference in both traditional and digital sculpture. He’s collaborated with studios like Blizzard Entertainment, Electronic Arts, and Naughty Dog, leaving his mark on iconic universes such as World of Warcraft and Diablo III. He sculpted dinosaurs for National Geographic and the Discovery Channel. He’s taught workshops at the world’s top sculpture schools: Gnomon School, Massive Black, and LAAFA – Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art.
But Alex was never just a name in the credits. He became a master to others. As a way of giving back to the art that gave him purpose, he’s trained thousands of artists around the world, teaching not just technique, but respect, attentiveness, and presence. Because for him, teaching is a way of sculpting the future.
I don’t think I’m special. I just had the luck to find something that gave me peace. And I keep doing it, one day at a time.

For two years, Alex Oliver devoted himself exclusively to a project that marks a milestone in his career: the creation of 120 fine art miniatures for Fantastic Art Studios, each one honoring the most iconic characters in the RPG universe.
This isn’t just a collection. It’s a visual compendium. A celebration of the fantasy art tradition. Alex studied each character as if studying a legend. And reimagined them through a contemporary lens, where classic RPG aesthetics meet his unmistakable artistic signature.
The Black Dragon had each scale sculpted one by one. Not out of perfectionism, but out of reverence for the creature, the craft, and the significance of the gesture. With the patience of someone who knows that myths are not born in haste. Every form is a tribute to the journey that brought him here. Alex doesn’t follow trends. He listens to time. And shapes what deserves to endure.
Art is excellent for communicating symbols and messages, and increasingly important in reminding us of a simpler life.

Welcoming master artists like Alex Oliver is not only about appreciating and recognizing their talent and artwork, but also about bringing the concept of fine art and meaning to the RPG universe, and building a legacy to endure for generations. Fantastic Art Studios embraces these concepts in its mission to create a lasting legacy, recognizing that collectors and miniature painting hobbyists are vital to this process. They will add their art of painting and collecting to the Fantastic Miniatures, along with their own personal meanings. And in the end, there will be no end.
